Claudia & Randy Findlay

Honorary Campaign Co-Chairs, Academy and College Grandparents

Claudia Findlay

Claudia has been involved with raising and educating children for over 50 years. Her experience as a teaching assistant, a school volunteer, a community volunteer, and stay-at-home mom for her three children has made her a passionate advocate for children receiving the educational experience they need and deserve. She believes that the greatest gift a child can receive is education.

As the grandmother of three grandchildren who are attending or have graduated from the Academy, and two grandchildren who have graduated from or are attending the College, Claudia has been privileged to witness the exceptional all-round education they have achieved; an education that is more than academic, encompassing community service, compassion for others, team play and instilling self esteem and confidence is what she has observed at Rundle.

Prior to her Rundle experience, Claudia began her continuing involvement with the Alberta Children’s Hospital. As the hospital was nearing completion, she campaigned for, designed, and provided initial funding for the Therapeutic Arts Program. This is a program where children dealing with significant health challenges can express themselves through flat art, dimensional art, and music; a place where “kids can be kids.” Last year, the hospital acknowledged her contributions by naming the program space in honour of her and her husband, Randy.

Randy Findlay

Randy retired 20 years ago after a 30-year career in the Canadian oil and gas industry.

He leveraged his engineering degree into positions in planning, finance, acquisitions and corporate leadership.  After retiring, he served on more than 25 boards of public, private, and not-for-profit organizations. He was appointed chair of several of these organizations. He currently is Chair of the Strategic Advisory Board for the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute.

He became involved in fund development 30 years ago when he co-chaired a campaign for the Alberta Cancer Foundation. He also co-chaired major gifts for the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation campaign for the new hospital, was a Cabinet Member of the University of British Columbia’s $1.5 billion campaign, was co-vice chair of the Resolve Campaign to end homelessness. He has mentored a number of not-for-profit organizations in their fund development initiatives.

With five grandchildren having graduated from or currently attending Rundle Academy and College, he has firsthand knowledge of how their time at Rundle has prepared them for a happy and successful future.

Randy and Claudia have directed their philanthropy to children’s health care, both physical and mental, and the education of children and young people. They are both excited to be involved in the Rundle Academy Building Futures campaign and are humbled to be Honorary Co-Chairs.
